Let's Get Personal

Today I'm taking a page from other bloggers I read and admire (#ModernMrsDarcy and #BooklistQueen and #SarahsBookshelves to name a few), where I realized that I enjoy reading their occasional personal posts....about their lives, not just what they're reading. So, for those who are interested in who the person behind the blog is, here's a bit about me. I think I'll make this a monthly check in and update what I'm musing about or

what's new in my life. And if it strikes a chord with something in your life, let me know!

I know there's a bit of information in the "About" page, but who reads those? So let's start this monthly feature off with five basic bio things:

  • I'm married with two grown boys - married to Dan for 40 years and counting! I'm excited to say we have a family wedding coming up this summer as our oldest son takes the leap.

  • I live in a suburb of Seattle, WA, a totally gorgeous part of the country in which to live. Surrounded by mountains and lakes and the ocean, there's beauty around every corner. Of course, there's also snarly traffic and LOTS of people, but what are you going to do? And, yes, there's the rain. But if you didn't have the rain, it wouldn't be so beautifully green!

  • I'm not much of a cook. Don't mind cooking for company, but on a daily, just-for-the-two-of-us basis, not so much. I'm open to quick and easy and filling recipe ideas! Go ahead, share.

  • Hate to exercise. Hate it. Have tried over and over through the years and it's never stuck. As I get older, I know exercise is more important for so many health reasons so I try to walk more ..... just seems like there's always something more interesting to do.

  • Love to flex my creative muscles. I've tried my hand at all sorts of arts and crafts from knitting and quilting to collage and jewelry making. A couple years ago I discovered the Seattle Urban Sketching group and have fallen in love with sketching and watercolor painting. Still definitely a beginner, but having SO much fun. (made this sketch in Copenhagen on vacation last summer.)

What I Do With My Time When I'm Not Blogging

Shopping (usually online): Love this casual comfy summer shirt from Amazon's Goodthreads brand (oh and did I say affordable?).

Binge watch on TV: Recently spent a weekend with Dan binge watching Amazon's Hunters starring Al Pacino about Nazi hunters right after the war. That's one way to kill a weekend.

Rant and Rave

RANT: I'm beyond tired of driving to work in the dark AND just when it's starting to get light, it's Daylight Savings time, and I'm plunged into darkness again! I'm ready for spring!

RAVE: My GPS (Waze) got me around a major freeway accident this morning and made my commute much better than usual.

What I'm Reading Today and What's Up Next (it is a book blog after all):

Just starting The Ten Thousand Doors of January and absolutely loving it. On audio I'm listening to The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny. I have the two books for my Buddy Read on hold at the library, but the libraries have all closed till further notice, so I'll have to choose from my own shelves.....I think I'm leaning toward a mystery/thriller, either The Other Woman by Sandi Jones or Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling). Any input?

Happy Reading!

Welcome to Bookshelf Journeys.

It's my goal to provide real reviews of the books I read without totally rehashing every plot. I'll never spoil a story by giving away a plot twist! Hopefully you'll find one or two of interest and will discover a new book or author to add to YOUR TBR list.  Take a moment to explore, read a couple reviews, and let me know what you think.

                            TIPS

For your convenience, I use #hashtags in the reviews and when you click on one, you'll find more books with that theme. Hopefully you'll find it a helpful way to navigate the site and find books you'll enjoy. I've also recently added tags that will show up at the end of each review that serve the same purpose.

The review ratings are based on a 5 star  (1/2 stars sometimes) system with a 3 being an average read for me. I hope you find that helpful. Knowing, of course, that all opinions are just that - my opinion!  Let me know if you agree or disagree - I'd love to hear from you.
