Four Fun Friday memes - join us?

Fridays are about sharing the first sentence(s) of a current book I'm reading and a snippet from page 56 or 56% on e-reader from the same book. Fun, right? And I'm joining the BBH (Blogger Hop) to answer this week's prompt. As always, everyone is welcome - hope to see you there and sharing first sentences.......

Today's Book is:

Currently Reading:

The World We Make #2 by N.K. Jemisin

Genre: fantasy

Published Nove 2022; 448 pages

First Sentence(s): "Prologue: Call me Neek. No, I'm not hunting no fucking whale."

At page 56: "He trails off on an up-note, frowning a little as his gaze grows distant. Then Manny hears it, too. New York is never quiet, but in the near distance there is a sudden chorus of car horns. That's nothing; since moving to the city Manny's heard entire four-movement symphonies whenever someone blocks an intersection. But they're all listening now, attention caught, because if Neek's noticed it, then it's important. Manny begins to hear voices, a lot of them, rising louder than the horns."

Today's Question: What was the first book you read this year?

I started Demon Copperhead at the end of December, so it was the first book I finished in 2023.

Book Beginnings (share the first sentence(s) hosted by Rose City Reader

First Sentence Friday (share the first sentence(s) hosted by Reading Is My Superpower

Friday 56 (share a blurb from the 56th page or 56% mark) is hosted by Freda's Voice

Hope you'll join in one or all of these fun memes and take a minute to visit the other participants. I'm surprised how many times a first sentence can send me looking for a book.

Welcome to Bookshelf Journeys.

It's my goal to provide real reviews of the books I read without totally rehashing every plot. I'll never spoil a story by giving away a plot twist! Hopefully you'll find one or two of interest and will discover a new book or author to add to YOUR TBR list.  Take a moment to explore, read a couple reviews, and let me know what you think.

                            TIPS

For your convenience, I use #hashtags in the reviews and when you click on one, you'll find more books with that theme. Hopefully you'll find it a helpful way to navigate the site and find books you'll enjoy. I've also recently added tags that will show up at the end of each review that serve the same purpose.

The review ratings are based on a 5 star  (1/2 stars sometimes) system with a 3 being an average read for me. I hope you find that helpful. Knowing, of course, that all opinions are just that - my opinion!  Let me know if you agree or disagree - I'd love to hear from you.

If you like what you see and want to keep up with me, subscribe below.  Happy Reading!
