Four Fun Friday memes to join

Fridays are about sharing the first sentence(s) of a current book I'm reading and a snippet from page 56 or 56% on e-reader from the same book. Fun, right? And I'm joining the BBH (Blogger Hop) to answer this week's prompt. As always, everyone is welcome - hope to see you there and sharing first sentences.......

Today's Book is:

Currently Reading:

A Gathering of Shadows (#2) by V. E. Schwab

Genre: Fantasy

Published 2016; 509 pages

First Sentence(s): "Delilah Bard had a way of finding trouble. She'd always thought it was better than letting trouble find her, but floating in the ocean in a two-person skiff with no oars, no view of land, and no real resources save the ropes binding her wrists, she was beginning to reconsider."

Page 56: "He collapsed the space between his palms, and the veil of darkness dissolved instantly, revealing the room for what it was: an empty stone cylinder clearly designed for meditation, not combat. The sparring forms were scattered, one burning merrily, another shot full of metal lances. The others - bashed, battered, broken - could hardly be called training dummies anymore. He closed his hand into a fist, and the fire on the burning dummy went out. "Show-off," muttered Rhy."

Today's Question: What was your favorite genre to read as a child? Do you still read that genre, or do you read something else now?

I remember reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys - I think I was a mystery fan from the beginning. As a young adult I expanded my reading to include V.C. Andrews, Dean Koontz and Stephen King. Maybe 10 years ago I started expanding my interests even further when my sons would recommend fantasy books they enjoyed and my sister would recommend a memoir. Now I find books I enjoy in almost every genre and that's the best of all worlds.

Hope you'll join in one or all of these fun memes and take a minute to visit the other participants. I'm surprised how many times a first sentence can send me looking for a book.

Welcome to Bookshelf Journeys.

It's my goal to provide real reviews of the books I read without totally rehashing every plot. I'll never spoil a story by giving away a plot twist! Hopefully you'll find one or two of interest and will discover a new book or author to add to YOUR TBR list.  Take a moment to explore, read a couple reviews, and let me know what you think.

                            TIPS

For your convenience, I use #hashtags in the reviews and when you click on one, you'll find more books with that theme. Hopefully you'll find it a helpful way to navigate the site and find books you'll enjoy. I've also recently added tags that will show up at the end of each review that serve the same purpose.

The review ratings are based on a 5 star  (1/2 stars sometimes) system with a 3 being an average read for me. I hope you find that helpful. Knowing, of course, that all opinions are just that - my opinion!  Let me know if you agree or disagree - I'd love to hear from you.

If you like what you see and want to keep up with me, subscribe below.  Happy Reading!
